Overcame Illnesses

One piece of Wilma's life that shaped her to break barriers was her battles with many diseases. She overcame many illness all before the age of six which includes spotted fever, pneumonia, and polio.
Spotted fever is a bacterial tick-borne disease that affected Wilma through join point and muscle aches. These issues lead to difficulty in movement. The second illness Wilma faced was polio. Polio is a virus that affected Wilma through fatigue, muscle weakness, and slow growth. This disease inhibited Wilma's body's ability to grow correctly and taught Wilma that in order to succeed she needed to work harder than everyone else. The last disease Wilma faced was pneumonia. Pneumonia is an infection that causes damage to the lungs. Wilma had to endure sharp pains in her chest, shortness of breath and coughing. Through these three diseases, she had to learn how to break barriers so she could succeed.
